I have had the antique bug for as long as I can remember.
Scouting flea markets, estate sales and antique shops was
always my favorite past time. After moving to Central Nevada
six years ago and needing a hobby to keep my busy I took
up beading and showing my work at local craft shows.
With
limited space to house my antique collections I placed a
new rule on myself to buy only what fit in my purse. Vintage
and antique jewelry fit the bill and a new obsession began.
I wanted to preserve the past and pick up the broken, unwanted,
discarded and crusty pieces. My love of antiques and beading
merged and became "Banana Bliss".
My
spiritually began showing up in my work as I incorporated
broken rosary chain and old discarded religious medals.
History including military and award metals also caught
my eye. The Victorian era though the 1940's peaked my interest
and I began buying books on old jewelry. I scoured the net
for unusual and gorgeous gemstones and pearls. I fell in
love with all the old ivory. I was in it deep and spent
many hours researching and educating myself and drooling
over the many possibilities. I was kept awake at night dreaming
of new design ideas. These are the special elements that
go into my creations.
I
am also learning new techniques and recently started hand
forging my own clasps and ear wires out of sterling, brass
and copper. I am continually on the hunt for the most unusual
elements and the hard to find gemstones. Each of my pieces
is a one-of-a-kind creation made to inspire and delight
you. I will always continue to dream and create lovely art
while preserving our past through jewelry.
